Kurdistan offers a competitive and cost-effective production environment, supported by a range of soft incentives facilitated through the Kurdistan Film Commission.

Depending on each production’s requirements, these may include free or facilitated access to selected locations, filming permit support, government and security coordination, access to relevant public services, and other forms of on-the-ground production support. Through our network of industry and service partners, productions may also benefit from preferential rates and special discounts across accommodation, transportation, equipment, local services and other production requirements.

We also provide guidance on relevant funding opportunities and support mechanisms, including the Kurdistan Film Fund.

We support productions with authentic, culturally informed casting, helping identify local actors, extras, and supporting talent that reflect the languages, communities, and cultural context of each project. Where required, we facilitate connections with local casting professionals and relevant communities.

We connect productions with specialists in Kurdish languages, dialects and cultural context, supporting linguistic accuracy, cultural authenticity and credible representation on screen.

We connect productions with Kurdistan’s professional film industry, including established production and service companies, producers, crew, suppliers and specialised industry professionals. Based on each project’s requirements, we help productions identify the right local partners, expertise, and services for their work in Kurdistan.

We invest in the professional development of Kurdistan’s film industry through high-level training, workshops and capacity-building programmes delivered in partnership with leading international film institutions and experienced industry professionals.

From collaborations with organisations such as EAVE and TorinoFilmLab to programmes led by established producers, filmmakers, department heads and other working professionals, we connect local talent and crew with international expertise, practical experience and professional industry standards.

We work directly with ministries and government institutions to secure filming permits, necessary administrative authorisations, and security clearances for your production.

When filming involves public spaces, government property, roads, or locations requiring specific approvals, the Commission coordinates with the relevant authorities to facilitate the required access and permissions.
